Homeopathic remedies are naturally sourced from plants, minerals or animal by-products.
Homeopathy is based on the premise that like cures like and assists the body's constant challenge of maintaining balance.
Using minute quantities of natural substances, homeopathy promotes the body’s natural healing ability.
For instance Allium cepa (onion) in its pure form causes watery, irritated eyes. When administered in homeopathic formulation as outlined by the HPUS, Allium Cepa can relieve the symptoms of allergies or hay fever such as watery, irritated eyes.
Studies are performed on healthy human volunteers who submit to taking a natural substance under the supervision of homeopathic practitioners. The volunteer then reports the symptoms obtained from taking the natural substances. The remedies that create symptoms in a well person, relieve those same symptoms in a person who is not feeling well. The body is stimulated to adjust the imbalance within itself. Effectiveness as with all health is greater with a healthy lifestyle including proper sleep and nutrition, plenty of exercise and little use of stimulants such as alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine or any drugs.
Homeopathy is safe, effective, affordable, non-habit forming with no reported side effects, overdoses or adverse drug reactions. It can be applied to both acute and chronic health problems aggravated by mental, emotional and physical symptoms. It is easily adaptable for self-care. Nearly all homeopathic medicines are available over the counter without a prescription. Infants, elderly and pregnant women can benefit from homeopathy as well as pets. Homeopathic remedies are organic animal, mineral and botanical substances diluted and succussed (vigorously shaken) or triturated (ground into powder) by HPUS formulation requirements (free of herbicides or pesticides). Due to the extreme dilution there is no flavor or after-taste of any substances.
Homeopathic medicines are regulated as drugs by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS) was written into federal law in 1938 under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The HPUS tells homeopathic medicine manufacturers exactly how the individual homeopathic medicines must be made. All homeopathic medicine manufacturers in the US must manufacture in accordance with the guidelines set out by the HPUS. Homeopathic pharmacies and manufacturers are inspected by the FDA just like other pharmacies and must comply with all Good Manufacturing Practice standards.
While most homeopathic medicines are designated by the FDA as “over-the-counter” drugs, and thus allowed to be sold in health food stores and to the general public, some homeopathic medicines are designated “prescription” Rx drugs. These Rx homeopathic medicines are available only to licensed practitioners with Rx prescription authority. Licensed practitioners are regulated per state.
